This little Czech nook surprises with its diversity and often with its contrasts. On one hand it is in close proximity of an industrial town. On the other hand it is a picturesque forested landscape that is ideal for the widest variety of activities – cycling, hiking, tennis, golf, horseback riding, sightseeing boat trips along the Morava, and even taking in auto races. It also offers opportunities to ski, swim, navigate rivers, and skydive.
Throughout the year Zlínsko is ideal as a holiday destination or just a place for a short getaway. Its diversity is illuminated by the diffusion of the three ethnographic districts that extend into the region: Valašsko, Haná a Slovácko. Every area is like a self-contained institution, every one offers something completely different, and surprising, from the others. Each area has an abundance of hospitality, diverse cuisine, accommodation to suit every budget and towns and villages rich in history, architecture and folklore. Here you can also enjoy folk celebrations and music, film and theatre festivals, relax your body in spas, soothe your spirit at pilgrimage sites, and purchase art and crafts. Additionally, there are hundreds of kilometres of clearly marked trails for pleasant strolls or bike rides through the countryside.
Zlín, associated with shoe king Tomáš Baťa, attracts modern architecture buffs, mainly because of its outstanding collection of functionalist structures. Central Europe’s first skyscraper stands right in Zlín! However, those who would rather see historical monuments needn’t worry – they can admire the castle in Malenovice
, the little Gothic church in Tečovice, the ancient pilgrimage site in Štípa, or the romantic chateau in Lešná
, which stands in the middle of a zoological garden. On hot days, you can find refreshment in, for instance, the popular recreation area by Otrokovice.
The Zlínsko region is relatively small, so most of the longer marked bike paths head towards neighbouring areas – for instance to the White Carpathians. Bike trails within the region (for instance the Zlín – Slavčín route, or the route to Spytihněv) are manageable for families with children.
