  • Loucký monastery (Loucký klášter) - monastery New window.
Loucký monastery (Loucký klášter) - monastery. Originally a premonstratensian monastery founded in 1190 by Count Konrad Otto. For centuries the massive monastery complex was an important centre of far more than cultural life in southern Moravia. After being hit by fate several times in the form of destructive wars, in 1784 came the last definitive blow – the dissolution of the monastery because of the religious reforms of Emperor Joseph II. For two long centuries soldiers moved into the monastery, and during their occupation the building became very run down. In recent times the Znovín Znojmo Winery has rented a part of the monastery and, together with the city of Znojmo, is gradually trying to improve the important monuments.

  • Minorite Monastery (Minoritský klášter) - monastery and museum New window.
Minorite Monastery (Minoritský klášter) - monastery and museum. The building of Minorite origin, later a Franciscan monastery, was built during the course of the 13th century. In 1270 – 1297 the monastery served as a burial place for King Přemysl Otakar II. In 1534 the monastery was taken over by the Franciscans who renovated the building, primarily its first floor, in the second third of the 16th century. After the monastery was vacated a part of the building was transformed into a military training school in 1784. Radical reconstruction of the abandoned monastery into a prison took place in 1825. The Minorite monastery building has served for museum purposes since 1945.
