Jewish monuments
On the cemetery from the beginning of the 17th century are 300 tombstones, a Neo-Gothic ceremonial hall from 1892 and the tomb of the Kuffner family.
In 1888 renovations were performed in the neo-Romanesque style with the implementation of Moresque elements in the interior. The Synagogue is a hall building divided into three sides by tribunals, which are accessible by two side staircases with independent entrances. The original appearance of the temple from the end of the 19th century, including its interiors has been partially preserved. The missing parts were reconstructed.
Mikulov used to be the intellectual, cultural and political centre of Moravian Jews. The Jewish settlement dates back to the 14th century. From the half of the 16th century until 1851 it was also the seat of the Moravian head rabbis. The original Jewish quarter had some 13.5 ha in size and today there are 90 houses including the Jewish school and alms-house. From the original 12 temples today remains only the Upper Synagogue from 1550, now serving as a museum, and parts of two other synagogues.
The cemetery is unique for its age (it was founded in the 15th century) and also for its 4000 tombstones in Renaissance, Baroque and Classicist style.
