Reccommended accommodation Lednice-Valtice Area - Education trails
Education trails
The reservation includes a total of six water areas: the Nesyt Pond (the largest Moravian pond), the Hlohovecký, Prostřední and Mlýnský Ponds, which are connected into one body, and two ponds situated further out in the castle park – the Zámecký and Podzámecký. The ponds established during the middle ages rank among the most significant ornithological habitats in the republic. A marked trail wanders throughout the reservation.
The trail goes from the Břeclav chateau, following the green tourist signs with only slight diversions and ending in the Lednice-Valtice area by romantic ruins of Janův hrad (John's Castle). The signs make it possible to follow the trail in both directions. Countryside surrounding the trail is mainly a wide valley wold of the Dyje river. A number of cutoffs and backwaters with lakes and swamps used to originate here after floods. Recently, a former inhabitant returned here - beaver. In several places, you will surely notice gnawed and fallen trees.
The nature trail circuit Turold demonstrates the variety of preserved natural area Pálava. It starts from the Turold quarry on the north edge of Mikulov. Despite its rather limited length, its 8 information panels provide all essential information on nature and history of Pálava. Fossils of moluscs, brachiopods and corals can be found in the Jurassic limestone on the bottom of the quarry.
