  • Dolní Věstonice - archaeological dig New window.
    Archaeological excavations famous for the discovery of a statuette of Mother Goddess. The excavations confirmed the presence of prehistoric mammoth hunters in older Stone Age, and of latter Slavonic settlement. The settlement foundations are visible in the terrain; the archaeological excavations are exhibited in the museum in the town square.

    St. Kliment's fortress. A church and monastery once stood here during the times of the Great Moravian Empire. According to tradition, Cyril and Metodej were to have transferred the remains of Pope St. Climent here. The remains of a church, wooden chapel and St. Gorazda's belfry are found here.

  • Great Moravia Memorial New window.
    Great Moravia Memorial. The building was built on the foundations of first discovered building from the great Moravian, the church "Na Valách.” It was uncovered during an excavation of the Moravian municipal museum in 1949 by Vilém Hrubý in the middle of an extensive burial site.

    Pohansko - archaeological dig. The grand Moravian hill fort from the 9th-11th century, archaeological conservation area. Archaeological excavation has revealed the foundations of a fortified farmstead, church, burial grounds and other buildings. The hill fort was protected by a wall made from stone, wood and soil. The moat was substituted by the Dyje River and its branches.

    Remains of the advanced military station X of the Roman legion, built on the crossroad of merchant roads of back then. The station was apparently establused during the time of the Marcomannic Wars and is a unique monument of this historical period.

  • Slavonic fortress in Mikulčice - museum and archaeological site New window.
    Slavonic fortress in Mikulčice - museum and archaeological site. The uncovered foundation of the Slavic grad from the 8-9th century, which became one of the most significant centres of the Great Moravian Empire of Mojmir in the 9th century. Most probably the site of the activities of saints Cyril and Methodius (year 863 ad.).

    Former important and large hill-fort settlement called Veligrad. >>From the discovery of burial ground it is judged that the settlement existed already in 5th century. Archaeological excavations uncovered also remains of craft-shops. Over uncovered foundations of a church stands a memorial.

  • Těšetice - site of an ancient prehistoric settlement New window.
    This is the most significant human settlement with Moravian painted pottery. The most important discovery in this area was cultish circle grounds with 60 m perimeter delimited by a large moat and a palisade system with four entrances pointing to the four cardinal points. The area is under systematic research, which is why a complex of research facilities was built there. A small exhibition and experimental dwellings built according to original ground plan from the older era of the culture with Moravian painted pottery can be found here.
